Research Register for Social Care

Supported by the Department of Health and developed by the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE), the Research Register records projects that are designed and presented as research. It is a database of current and completed social care research that has been subject to independent ethical and scientific review. It covers social care research in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The main source of research submitted to the site is research approved through the Research Governance Framework which is being implemented in Local Authorities, and from a number of Social Care Research Institutions/ Universities who are conducting research on behalf of the Department of Health.

The Research Register can be searched to obtain summary details of the individual studies and links to further information about them.

Aims of the Research Register for Social Care

  • To promote the use of research evidence in developing adults’ and children’s social care policy and practice.
  • To record current or completed research that has been approved by Local Councils’ Research Governance systems.
